The new Fortuna Federn WIM 14 CNC 5 axis spring coiling lathe was commissioned in January this year.

“National Springs undertook extensive research to determine the next piece of machinery to invest in. We were looking to both streamline our current production needs but also what would make us more competitive in our already very competitive market place,” says the company.

“This new lathe enables us to increase our capacity in both output and wire size. The WIM 14 CNC Lathe coils up to 14.0mm high tensile spring and 16.0mm soft wire which allows us greater automation.”

The WIM 14 automatic servo controlled hydraulic spring lathe coiler is used for cold production of right and left coiled cylindrical, one side conical compression, extension and torsion springs, and different wire forms.

Through the use of up to five controlled axis, National Springs can reach higher productivity and the possibilities for production of  different wire forms are endless. The machine pulls in, coils and cuts completely automatically.

Positioning to maximise space and product flow

With such a significant footprint, a factory reshuffle was required to make space and to streamline the handling of raw materials and finished product. The team at National Springs has maximised the workflow within the factory increasing productivity and turn around.

The company manufacturers springs and wire forms in quantities ranging from single units through to 100,000+ made from hard bright, pre-galvanised and stainless steel spring wire and more. It offers wire diameter capabilities ranging from 0.2mm up to 16.00mm, and above.

“Design and development are among our specialties. We work alongside our customers helping them develop cost effective solutions for new products or to improve their existing products. Our up to date design technology can design the spring to suit your requirements.

“Our range includes wire forms, compression springs, extension or tension springs and torsion springs. At National Springs & Wire Products we are always looking ahead and gauging the market to see what machinery will best enhance our current plant and give us an edge in today’s dynamic market, bringing our customers the best that we can provide.”

With its range of up to date CNC wire forming machines and spring coiling machines, the company can produce not only springs and single dimensional wire forms such as ground staples, but also 2D and 3D wire forms.

“Our competent, skilled staff can assist you by advising on what type of spring and end formation will best suit your requirements, from single/double/triple loops to extended hooks. The ends can be either open wound or accurately closed and ground on our CNC grinding machine. What you require we can make. We will help you design your spring to suit its application.”

On May 22 -23rd National Springs & Wire products NZ LTD will for the first time be exhibiting at SouthMACH in Hornby Castle Arena, Christchurch. With the establishment of a permanent South Island sales role, this is the perfect platform to meet the team face to face and see the array of innovative products.
